What is the theo app

The theo app is the web app for your brain: your daily brief, an ask box over everything you know, tasks, goals, people, health, and synthesis. It is theo at full strength.

In plain terms: the theo app is the window into your brain. It lives at asktheo.totalrecallhq.com, it opens in any browser on any device, and it is where theo works at full strength.

theo also rides along in Telegram, Slack, and WhatsApp, and your brain plugs into other AI tools. Those are great for a quick question on the move. The app is where you see everything at once.

What is in the app

Some sections are always there, because they are the product. The rest you switch on when you want them.

Always on:

  • Today: what needs you right now, pulled together from everywhere.
  • Daily Brief: your morning read of what matters. See Daily brief.
  • Goals: what you are working toward, tracked against what actually happened.
  • Synthesis: the patterns and blind spots theo finds on its own, across work, health, and life. See Synthesis.
  • People: a personal CRM of everyone you know, who to reconnect with, and a prep sheet before every call.

Switch on what you want:

  • Tasks: a board that fills itself from your email, calendar, and conversations, and that theo can close on your behalf.
  • Health: recovery, sleep, labs, and trends, read in context with the rest of your life.
  • Finance, Content, Docs, Travel, Archive: the rest of your world, in the same place.

Asking theo anything

Ask is not a separate page. Anywhere in the app you press Cmd+K (Ctrl+K on Windows) and an ask box opens over whatever you were looking at: one question in plain language, an answer grounded in everything you know, with the sources attached so you can check them. You do not lose your place. See How search works.

That box is the Ask Theo you will see referred to in the app, and it is why the app lives at asktheo.totalrecallhq.com.

Setting it up

The app is also where setup happens. A guided wizard walks you through connecting your sources, one at a time, in plain language: your documents, email, calendar, messages, meetings, and health data. You choose what comes in, and you can change your mind later. See Plans for what each tier includes.

Where else you will see the name “Ask Theo”

Three places, all the same theo. Worth knowing so nothing looks like a different product:

  • The theo app is what this page describes, and it is the full product. Its address is asktheo.totalrecallhq.com.
  • Ask Theo inside the app is the Cmd+K box above.
  • “Ask theo” in Slack is a small Slack app you can install into your workspace so you can message theo without leaving Slack. It is one of the channels theo shows up in, not a separate product.

All three read the same brain, and none of them holds a copy of your data. See Your data & ownership.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. The app works in a mobile browser, and theo is also reachable from the Claude app on your phone once you add your brain as a connector. One thing to know: reaching your brain from your phone means the brain has to be awake when your laptop is not, so it needs to run somewhere always on. See Using it from your phone for the detail.

Who can get into it

Only you. Sign-in is restricted to your approved account, and one brain belongs to one person. See Privacy & backups.
